Hyderabad: Exactly two-and-a-half years after flagging off two double-decker trains, the South Central Railway (SCR) decided to permanently cancel them owing to losses. The two trains were introduced with effect from May 13 & 14, 2014.

In spite of good facilities and unique features such as early smoke and fire detection with alarm system, air-conditioning and plush seats, the occupancy remained poor and gradually decreased to single digits prompting SCR to cancel the services. The ten AC coach train is powered by two generator cars.

SCR’s proposal to the Railway Board for cancelling the services which became un-economical, after eliciting the views of various stake holders including public representatives, members of the Divisional Rail Users Consultative Committee (DRUCC) was okayed by the Railway Board.

Train No. 22118/22117 Kacheguda-Guntur-Kacheguda AC Double Decker Express and Train No. 22120/22119 Kacheguda-Tirupati-Kacheguda AC Double Decker Express would be permanently cancelled from November 14, 2016. The Double Decker train would be utilized to run as a Tri-Weekly Express between Visakhapatnam-Tirupati via New Guntur at a later date informed senior officials of SCR.
