The Cabinet sub-committee, constituted to look into the issue of permitting setting up of private universities in the State, met here on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Deputy Chief Minister K Srihari.  

Hyderabad: The Cabinet sub-committee, constituted to look into the issue of permitting setting up of private universities in the State, met here on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Deputy Chief Minister K Srihari.

The sub-committee felt that there was a demand for private universities. At the same time, it also stressed the need for a change in educational policies as per international standards. So far several States had given permissions to 246 private universities and several organisations were showing interest to set up private universities in the State, Srihari said.

The sub-committee discussed permission system, admission procedure and issues pertaining to fees. It would also take legal advice before submitting a report to the government. The meeting was attended by ministers K T Rama Rao, P Srinivasa Reddy, T Srinivasa Yadav, Jagadish Reddy, Laxma Reddy and others.
