Hyderabad: The South Asian Literary Association (SALA) has selected ‘Indian Campus and the Problematics of Caste: A Study of Select Indian Campus Novels in English’, a research paper prepared by Krishanu Adhikari, 27-year-old PhD scholar in the Department of English, School of Humanities of University of Hyderabad (UoH), for presentation at their 2017 Conference to be held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania USA, from January 2. Krishanu told The Hans India: “I am overwhelmed and excited to showcase my skills and objective of the paper, which I always wanted to bring to limelight. SALA hardly picks up people. I am really fortunate enough to be selected,” he said.

SALA’s mission is to advance the knowledge and study of South Asian literatures, arts, and cultures; promote and disseminate an understanding of Diaspora writing; and mentors graduate students and junior colleagues as they pursue new scholarship in South Asian studies and publish new works of creative writing in various genres. Krishanu completed M.A. from Pondicherry University, M.Phil from English and Foreign Languages University and is pursuing PhD under the supervision of Prof S Mohanty, senior faculty in the Department of English at UoH.

Shedding light on his paper, Krishanu, who wants to become a professor, said: “It is to bring into account the institutionalisation of caste-based discourses. This paper would finally strive to locate the changing dynamics of campus-caste interface and showcase the deeper problematic situations of caste in Indian academia.
The paper would also refer to the works of Andre Beteille, Derek Bok, Jacques Derrida, the education commission reports and the writings of Ambedkar, in order to address the complex dynamics of the social responsibilities of Indian universities.”
