Hyderabad: The city police on Monday ensured the traffic came to a standstill for two minutes between 11 am and 11.02 am.

The traffic police switched off all the traffic signals across the city using the master control so that all the commuters observe two minute silence to pay respects to martyrs of the Indian Freedom Struggle.

The city police had been creating awareness about this programme through the regular media and social media. Police officials made appeals to the people to observe two minute silence on Martyrs’ Day to pay respects for all those who laid down their lives during the struggle for Indian Freedom.

Speaking to media persons little before the event, Additional Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Jitender, said more and more awareness needed to be created.

“We have conducted the same event last year too. But, unaware of the event, many people kept honking. I feel more awareness needs to be created among people about Martyrs’ Day,” the officer said.
