New Delhi: Telangana State Formation Day was celebrated on a grand scale at the Telangana Bhavan here on Friday.The programme began with flag hoisting by Special Representative of the State government S Venugopala Chari in the presence of his colleague Ramachandrudu Tejavath and Principal Resident Commissioner Aravind Kumar.

Various stalls displaying Telangana handlooms and other artifacts were set up as part of the celebrations. A special stall was erected to highlight the Mission Bhagiratha project, the dream project of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao.

A group of protesters displaying placards against illegal smuggling and slaughter of calves during Ramzan in Telangana State staged a demonstration ahead of the Telangana State Formation Day celebrations. When they tried to obstruct the programme, the Resident Commissioner reasoned with them and sent them out.

Later, they staged a dharna in front of the AP/Telangana Bhavan complex seeking action against illegal transporters of cows and calves.

Members of United Humans against Atrocities on Animals and Gau Gyan Foundation took part in the demonstration. Meanwhile, BJP National President Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi (who is on a foreign tour) greeted the people of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on the occasion. Both of them greeted the people of two Telugu States through their twitter accounts.
