Mahbubnagar: Celebrating Gandhi Jayanthi in Mahbubnagar on Tuesday, the members of Communist Party of India (CPI) demanded the Central government lead by Narendra Modi to declare the day as ‘National Day of Secularism’.

While speaking on the occasion Paramesh Goud, CPI district secretary said that the BJP lead government in the centre is resorting to various atrocities on the minorities and Dalits in the country.

“The governments both at the centre and state are adopting Hindutva agenda and resorting to violence on the minorities, Dalits and non Hindus. If the central government is really serious to uphold the Gandhian values of non-violence and religious pluralism then why is that they are patronising Godse—the killer of Gandhi by installing statues by some Hindu groups,” questioned Paramesh.

The CPI district secretary demanded that the central government if it is really serious to uphold the Gandhian values, it must declare Gandhi Jayanti as ‘National Secularism Day’ and promote religious pluralism and protect the interests of the minorities and Dalits who have been facing atrocities by some of the Hindu factionist.

Paramesh Goud said that the BJP at the Centre and TRS in the State are adopting Hindu agenda. If the BJP wins all the seats than one should not be surprised one day they may even change the constitution of India and in its place they may implement a Hindu Constitution promoting the ‘Manuvada’ agenda, which aims to create rifts in society on the basis of caste, religion and suppress the downtrodden, Dalits and minorities, observed Goud.

The CPI secretary said that it is the responsibility of the Central government to protect the rights of each and every citizen in this country and at the same time implement the constitution written by Dr BR Ambedkar, which ensures equality and freedom and protection of the rights of each and every Indian irrespective of their caste, creed and religion.
