Hyderabad: Election Watch, an NGO constituted to prevent irregularities in the forthcoming assembly elections, will be taking up voter awareness programme and focus on fake names in the voters list. M Padmanabha Reddy, secretary, Forum for Good Governance said, “In the coming two months, till the elections are over, the Election Watch Committee will take up voter awareness programme. It will focus on bogus names in voter list, election manifestos of political parties, canvassing, prevention of distribution of money and liquor and other election-related issues.”

The Election Watch will work in close collaboration with Election Commission and Police engaged in elections duty and bring the code violations if any to their notice. Election Watch will also work for increasing the percentage of polling, conduct meetings (face-to-face) with contesting candidates. Candidate’s criminal cases, assets and liabilities with reference to their earlier affidavits will be examined and put in public domain. With 20 civil society organizations, a common minimum programme will be implemented.

The participating organisations include Lok Satta Udayama Samsta, Aalochana, Seniors Samakya, Villages in Partnership, Mamidipudi Venkata Rangaiah Foundation, Agencies Vedika , APSA, Chaitanya Rural Women Development Society, Prajaswamya Parirakshana Vedika, Vidya Parirakshana Committee, Abhipraya Swachchnda Samsta, RTI Rastra Committee and Forum for Good Governance.
