Secunderabad: Noted Telugu cine director Shekhar Kammula flaggd off a voter awareness campaign vehicle at Vivekananda statue in Padmarao Nagar in a program organized by Nigha Vedika and a voluntary organization Apsa on Friday. Addressing the gathering, the cine director exhorted everyone to exercise their vote as a duty. In a democracy, people should know the value of vote and utilise their right to vote, he said. He opined that people would lose right to question elected governments if they do not participate in election process. He congratulated voluntary organizations such as Nigha Vedika and Apsa for their services to raise voter awareness among people residing in urban areas.

Nigha Vedika convener M Padmanabha Reddy urged voters not to get lured by inducements such as money and liquor and vote freely. Although voting percentage improved considerably in rural areas, it needs to be improved further in urban areas. To improve voter percentage, Nigha Vedika would coordinate with 31 other voluntary organizations to raise awareness among urban voters, he said. Apsa director S Srinivas Reddy said that vote is precious in a democratic system and urged voters to exercise their right on December 7 as all the private institutions, offices and businesses have declared holiday on the polling date.
