Demanding changes to the Electricity Amendment Bill 2018, the power employees will go on a nationwide strike on January 8 and 9.
"As many as 15 lakh employees of all ranks will take part in the strike," All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF) chairman Shailendra Dubey. He further said that the central government is trying to push the public sector undertakings into financial crisis by unilaterally adopting to amend the Electricity Act - 2003.
He also said that the proposed amendment will bring all the power supplies under private and the discoms will have to take only a few domestic supplies. He further added that the state electricity regulatory commission will not any power to decide on the tariffs and has to accept the decision made by the national electricity regulatory commission.
