Hyderabad: Cautioning a possible backlash from Muslim community in the Parliamentary elections to be held in 2019, Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) demanded the TRS to oppose ‘Triple Talaq Bill’ to be introduced in the Parliament for discussion on December 27. While hoping that the KCR would reflect the claim of being a friendly CM for the minorities, particularly Muslims, MBT president Majeedullah Khan Farhat said that his party MPs would oppose the bill and vote against it. He cautioned the chief minister of remaining absent, indirectly supporting the BJP. “If the TRS backs the bill or even remains absent during the voting, it would surely reflect in the Parliamentary elections of 2019,” he cautioned.

“KCR, who claims to be friend of Muslims, should oppose and if at all the party fails to oppose the bill, MBT would encourage Muslims to vote against it in the upcoming Parliamentary elections,” he added. MBT has been strongly opposing the ordinance on Triple Talaq, and the idea mooted by the BJP. Earlier, he said that the BJP Government was using various tactics to consolidate Hindu votes by interfering in Muslim Personal Law. When the majority of Muslim women rejected the ordinance, the government should withdraw it.

Farhat pointed out that Islam is a religion that has given equal rights to women. It has preached to recognize the rights of animals, as well. There is no need for the Muslim community to take a lesson from the BJP. By promulgating the ordinance, the government is creating an atmosphere of anarchy. Religious freedom has been ensured to everyone in the constitution. The attempt of the government to interfere in the personal law will not be tolerated.
