Falaknuma: Drainage overflow is slowly turning into a common problem in different localities of Old City and locals are complaining that these remained unattended despite lodging several complaints with the civic officials. For the past one week, the lanes opposite to Fatima Hospital in Jahanuma near Falakunma have been inundated with overflowing drain water. The lanes in the area are severely affected because of the drainage water and it is causing inconvenience to the residents and nearby shops.

Along with drain water, fecal wastage is also coming out from manholes affecting the residents in the entire lane. Due to drain overflow, even the entire road is getting damaged due to water logging and inundation. Several complaints were made to authorities and representations were submitted to local leaders, but all in vain.

The residents have now expressed their frustrations over the complacent attitude of the officials concerned. A resident of drain water affected area in Bait-ul-Nafees lane at Jahanuma in Kalapather division under Bahadurpura constituency, Syed Jaber said, “We are now frustrated with the drain water leakage and water logging in front of our houses, which are causing lots of inconvenience here. The continuous foul smell from the stagnant drain water is nauseating and creating headaches and other illnesses in many residents. To whom should we approach, as none are responding to this problem.”

The residents said, it is really disappointing that they have been complaining to the officials about the issue but there is no response from them, there should be no delay and authorities need to check the condition of drainage system. Congress leader, Kamatipura division Mohammed Imad Patel said, “The HMWS&SB officials, local corporators and leaders are silent on the issue of drain leakage and the same people were promising developments in the area during elections.”
