Visakhapatnam: Visitors to the district court, advocates and nearby general public ran helter-skelter soon after news of a bomb scare spread on the court premises here on Thursday afternoon. Later, all heaved a sigh of relief in the presence of local police and the Bomb Disposal Squad, who clarified that the object was nothing but red- coloured cricket balls. A thorough screening of a 'Scooty' that belongs to a woman advocate revealed there was no explosive. Trouble began when an advocate, Palaka Srirama Murthy, who was about to take out his car, found two round, red-coloured objects tied with tape in an open basket of a Scooty, parked near the Family Court and also a mobile lying near the vehicle. Besides, the two-wheeler bore no number on the rear plate, prompting him to send a message to the police suspecting it to be an act of extremists. On receipt of the complaint, a police team headed by ACP Venkata Rao rushed to the spot with a Bomb Disposal Squad. After a complete screening of the vehicle and its surroundings, the police came to a conclusion that there was nothing except cricket balls. However, the owner of the two-wheeler did not arrive at the scene despite the issue causing fear in the entire area. Also she did not respond to the phone call by the police who obtained the number from the 'Certificate of Registration' book. After sometime, the woman advocate Katyayini came to the spot and told the police that her husband had purchased the cricket balls for the children, which were kept in the open basket, adding that one of her two mobiles was also missing. The police said a case would be registered after discussing the issue with higher-ups. Later, the advocate Katyayini fumed at the media persons alleging that all petty things are being amplified for no reason.
