Visakhapatnam: The Eastern Naval Command (ENC) celebrated the World Meteorological Day on Monday. The day is observed every year to commemorate the formation of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) this day in 1950. Each year, the WMO focuses on a meteorological issue of global significance to human progress, sustainable socio-economic development and environment protection. The theme for the current year is 'Watching the Weather to Protect Life and Property'. At the ENC, the World Meteorological Day was celebrated with activities such as competitions in painting and essay writing for children, and organised visits by schools. Rear Admiral GS Pabby, AVSM, Admiral Superintendent, Naval Dockyard (Visakhapatnam), inaugurated at the Command Meteorological Office, a 'Digital Meteorological Data Dissemination System (DMDDS)', which facilitates reception of real-time meteorological data and various satellite imageries.
