Karimnagar: The representatives of Telangana Joint Action Committee (T-JAC) and leaders of Opposition parties on Tuesday demanded the government withdrawal of GO: 39 that was issued for the formation of farmers coordination committees (FCCs) and suspension of FCC’s that were already formed at mandal and village-levels. They staged a dharna protesting against the formation of FCCs in front of the mandal parishad office here on Tuesday.
Speaking on the occasion, T-JAC representative Jakkoju Venkateshwarlu alleged that the GO: 39, which was issued by the State government, was undemocratic and not only weakens the local bodies but also curbs the rights of village sarpanches, MPTCs, MPPs and ZPTCs, who were elected by the people as per the constitution in a democratic way.
Alleging lack of transparency in the constituting the FCCs, he pointed out that the government was afraid to declare the names of the persons selected for FCCs. He observed that the FCCs may even dominate agricultural and revenue departments since they are answerable only to the ruling party.
By filling the committees with the TRS party activists, it is trying to strengthen its cadre at village-level, Venkateshwarlu alleged.
The representatives of various peoples’ organisations including the leaders of all Opposition parties and several sections of people were opposing the decision of the TRS government of formation of FCCs by issuing GO: 32, he added. The T-JAC representative demanded the government withdrawal of the decision immediately for strengthening the local bodies and to save democracy. Otherwise a befitting lesson would be taught by intensifying the movement in the coming days, he warned.
T-JAC representatives J Narsingh, N Babaiah, N Sadashiva Reddy, G Madhavi, K Manikanta Reddy, leaders of Opposition parties Karra Rajashekar Reddy, Medipalli Raju, Satyanarayana, Shravan Kumar, K Santhosh Chary and Chandrashekar were present along with others.
