Peddapalli: District In-charge Collector S Prabhakar Reddy said libraries are repositories of knowledge after inaugurating the 50th International Library Week celebrations at Zilla Parishad Girls High School here on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, he called upon students to take part in various competitions. “In people’s perception, libraries are mere store houses of textbooks and old books, but in reality, they act as bridges to disseminate information and knowledge to the posterity.

Varieties of books related to history, literature, culture, science and fiction and newspapers of all kinds will be available in most of the libraries. Libraries will enable teachers to bring out latent talents of students. Students should spend at least some time daily in libraries for their constructive development,” he added.

Reddy said necessary steps would be taken to develop libraries in the district. He asked the people to show enthusiasm to visit libraries. Zilla Grandhalaya Samstha Chairman Raghuveer Singh thanked the in-charge Collector for gracing the occasion.

He greeted the kids on Children’s Day. Stating that there are 18 branch libraries in the district, he appealed to the Collector to ensure own building for all the libraries. “Week-long celebrations are being organised in order to promote libraries. Drawing, elocution and essay writing completions are being conducted in various schools and certificates will be awarded to the winners.

We are striving to set up mini knowledge centers with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds. With the help of all, we will restore past glory to libraries,” he added. Peddapalli Municipal Chairman L Rajaiah, District Education Officer Venkateswara Rao, Panchayat Officer Sudharshan, District Public Relations Officer G Veeraiah, ZPTC member Divya Reddy, MPP Sunitha, Ward Councilor and others were present.
