Sircilla: Telangana is the only State in the country to give financial assistance to farmers, Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao said.

The Minister, who took part in the distribution of cheques to farmers under Rythu Bandhu Scheme (RBS) at Vilasagar and Sarampally villages on Tuesday, said that cultivators across the State are happy ahead of the Kharif. “It’s all because of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, who wanted to see the farmers in a comfortable position at a time agriculture has become unprofitable,” he said.

Stating that previous governments had failed to provide not even six hours of power supply to farming sector, KTR claimed credit for the TRS government for ensuring uninterrupted power supply besides mitigating irrigation woes by taking up restoration of 46,000-odd tanks in the State.

“For the last eight decades, there was no effort to purify the land records. However, KCR government made it possible for the betterment of farmers,” KTR said, finding fault with the Opposition parties for criticising the implementation of RBS.

The upcoming projects – Kaleshwaram, Palamuru, Sitarama etc – will change the face of the agriculture in the State. It’s certain that KCR will achieve his dream of irrigating 1.20 crore acres, he asserted.

He said that it’s the Central Government which decides the minimum support price (MSP). The TRS government would have increased the MSP if the subject falls under State ambit, he added, refuting the charges of the Opposition parties.

Further he asserted that Telangana is the only State honouring the recommendations of Swaminathan Committee on agriculture.

Karimnagar MP B Vinod Kumar, Choppadandi MLA B Shobha, farmers coordination committee district coordinator Gaddam Nrsaiah and District Collector Krishna Bhaskar were among others present.
