Sachin Tendulkar 'came out of retirement' and faced Australian women's spearhead Ellyse Perry in a special over during the charity match played between Ponting XI and Gilchrist XI to raise funds for Australia's bushfire victims at Junction Oval, Melbourne.

The over happened in the innings break after Ponting XI had batted their quota of 10 overs.

Ahead of the match, Yuvraj Singh – who played for Gilchrist XI – revealed that Tendulkar spent 40 minutes in the net before he made his first appearance in the cricket field in five and a half years. Even though the Little Master had to face only six deliveries, he made sure he had a decent net session before the match. Tendulkar had a phenomenal record against the Aussie sides he played during his decorated career but on Sunday, he donned the Australian green and golden colours for a good cause.

Tendulkar faced Australia's star all-rounder and 2019 Women's Cricketer of the Year Perry in the over and her Annabel Sutherland. Even though he was going to play cricket after a very long time, he went off the mark on the very first ball with a boundary.

The legendary Indian cricketer flew to Melbourne as the coach of the Ponting XI team. However, Perry threw the challenge at Tendulkar through a video message on Saturday. Tendulkar, in turn, accepted it and the cricket fans watched the over that the ICC called "this is what dreams are made of."

Tendulkar came out to bat for an over despite an injury. He revealed he had shoulder injury through a tweet but also promised that he would bat in the Bushfire match "against the advice of his doctor".

"Hey Sachin, it's awesome to have you out here in Australia supporting the Bushfire match. I know you're coaching one of the teams but a few of us were sitting around last night chatting and we thought it would be absolutely amazing to see you potentially come out of retirement for one over in the innings break out here at Junction Oval," Perry said in a video that was shared by Australian women's cricket team on the social media.

"We'd love to have a bowl to you and obviously fetch a few balls from over the boundary that you've hit. We thought it would be an awesome way to raise a bit more money for the Bushfire Appeal, which I know you're already doing so much for. If you're at all up for it, we'd love to have you out here -- I know there'd be some girls very keen to field some balls that you hit. So let us know, and thanks again for everything," she added.

Replying to the star all-rounder, Tendulkar tweeted," Sounds great Ellyse. I would love to go out there and bat an over (much against the advice of my doctor due to my shoulder injury). Hope we can generate enough money for this cause, and to get me out there in the middle."

Ricky Ponting side scored 104 for 5 in their allotted 10 overs and won the match against Adam Gilchrist's team by one run. The charity match was a huge success as the celebrities have raised $7.7 million so far from the match.

Here are the squads:

Gilchrist XI: Adam Gilchrist (wk), Shane Watson, Brad Hodge, Yuvraj Singh, Elyse Villani, Andrew Symonds, Cameron Smith, Nick Riewoldt, Peter Siddle, Fawad Ahmed, Courtney Walsh

Ponting XI: Matthew Hayden, Justin Langer, Ricky Ponting, Phoebe Litchfield, Brian Lara, Alex Blackwell, Brad Haddin (wk), Luke Hodge, Brett Lee, Dan Christian, Wasim Akram
