83% cast votes in second phase of Parishad polls

Khammam: The second phase of MPTC and ZPTC polls came to an end on Friday. The polls were held in six mandals i.e., Enkuru, Kalluru, Penuballi, Sathupalli, Thallada and Vemsoor of the district where a total of 34 candidates fought for six ZPTC posts and 280 candidates for 82 MPTC positions.

The polling process started on Friday at 7 am and ended at 5 pm. Police officials, who were posted at the polling stations since Thursday afternoon, took all steps to prevent any untoward incidents.

The polling went slowly in all the six mandals in the morning hours with 10 per cent of polling for the first three hours. After 11 am, the polling percentage gradually increased. People showed enthusiasm in exercising their voting rights.

District officials were able to conduct the polling effectively in the 477 polling stations in 169 polling locations. There were 2, 30,072 voters in the six mandals, of which 1,13,934 were men, 1,16,135 were women and three belonged to third gender. When the polling was concluded, it was announced that 83.24 per cent voters have exercised their franchise. Khammam Commissioner of Police Tafseer Iqbal along with Deputy Commissioner of Police Muralidhar inspected the sensitive polling stations at Kukalapadu and Annarugudem villages in Enkoor mandal and Peruvanch village of Kallur mandal.
