Hyderabad: City traffic police distributed ISI approved helmets to the motorcycle riders, who were not wearing helmets after counselling them at Sangeeth Junction, Secunderabad on Tuesday as part of traffic awareness campaign.

Additional Police Commissioner, Traffic, Anil Kumar addressing the gathering recalled the tragic road accidents that occurred in the last week at Biodiversity flyover and a bike accident at Tank Bund on the same day night.

"In our Telangana State, mostly bike riders have died in road accidents for not wearing helmets," he added. He stated that it is compulsory to wear a helmet and to follow all traffic rules for the safety of citizens and the society.

The police official further said that about 7,000 deaths in Telangana State and 1.5 lakh deaths in the country are reported every year due to road accidents, which is a huge loss to the country. He also requested all citizens to buy ISI standard helmets.
