The forest department officials have arrested four people for allegedly killing a leopard and setting it afire near Umarda village of Bazarhathnoor mandal on Wednesday. Apart from arresting them, the police also seized nine claws, axe and a sickle from them.

The arrested were identified as Namdev, Nagender, Nageshwar and Nagorao hailing from Umarda. While two others have gone absconding.

Upon questioning, the arrested said that they killed the leopard on November 10 and set afire fearing of the arrest. However, they removed the claws and canine teeth before burning the carcass.

The police registered a case against six people and are investigating.
