Tank Bund: Work on the Telangana Martyrs memorial on the banks of Hussain Sagar has finally begun with the Chief Minister giving his consent to the design that would resemble a lamp-signifying the sacrifices made by martyrs.

Being developed by the Roads and Buildings Department, the memorial is coming up in an extent of three acres at Lumbini Park at an estimated cost of Rs 80 crore. It has been designed in such a way that the Martyrs Memorial, Buddha statue in Hussainsagar and the Tricolour in Sanjeevaiah Park will appear in the same line of sight.

The memorial structure would resemble a traditional 'diya' (lamp). The structure will rise 26 meters. The project consists of two basements plus three floors with a built-up area of about 2,80,000 square feet and parking space for 400 four wheelers and 440 two wheelers in the basement floors. A museum, photo gallery and audio-visual room will be set up on the first floor. A 700- capacity convention hall is to come up on the second floor overlooking the lake. A restaurant and landscape area in the third floor and a maintenance room on the ground floor.

The works are said to be completed in six months.
