Hyderabad: BC leaders from Telangana met union textile minister Smriti Irani at her residence in New Delhi on Sunday and urged her to give priority to handloom sector in the upcoming national textile policy. Among those who met the minister including were the vice-president of BC Welfare Association, Gujja Krishna, Neeradi Bhoopesh Sagar, Neelam Venkatesh and others. BC leaders said they had been meeting several ruling party leaders and ministers as part of their efforts to get political reservations to BCs and resolution of other BC related issues.

Speaking to media after the meeting, Gujja Krishna said that they explained to the ministers about various programmes conducted by handloom weaver associations, under the leadership of their official spokesperson Das Suresh in New Delhi, for the promotion of handloom sector. He said that the minister had appreciated their efforts to preserve the traditions culture and handloom sector and assured to formulate policies to benefit handloom weavers in the upcoming national textile policy.
