Hyderabad: HMWSSB says it's all set to man sewerage on outskirts
The Water Board informs it will take over their management from March 1
Khairatabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) will take up the management of sewerage in municipalities located on the city outskirts from March 1 this year.
This decision was announced on Monday by HMWSSB Managing Director M Danakishore at a meeting attended by GHMC Commissioner D S Lokesh Kumar, after discussing key sanitation issues in civic bodies located on the outskirts. Danakishore stated that the decision was taken following a suggestion by Municipal Administration Minister K Tarakarama Rao.
He pointed out that the municipalities in outskirts had 3,600 km sewerage pipeline setup across 66 wards. There was a requirement of 700 workers to manage 3,26,354 manholes. He revealed that the GHMC would pay HMWSSB Rs.8.3 crore as expenditure to manage the sewerage setup for five years.
According to Danakishore, the GHMC would hand over 29 Airtech and 66 mini-Airtech machines to HMWSSB. The board is spread over seven divisions and 43 sections in municipalities located on the outskirts. The GHMC workers would be trained by the board in taking up sanitation work and provided required tools. He said the comprehensive details of the transfer of work would be discussed by the board's operations directors and GHMC deputy commissioners.
Among those present at the meeting were HMWSSB Executive Director Dr M Satyanarayana, Operations Directors Ajmira Krishna, P Ravi, CGMs, besides top GMMC officials.
