Nirmal: Leprosy can be cured within a year
Everyone should feel responsible to eradicate leprosy from society, stated District Collector Musharaf Ali Farooqi on Thursday.
Nirmal: Everyone should feel responsible to eradicate leprosy from society, stated District Collector Musharaf Ali Farooqi on Thursday. As part of National Leprosy Prevention Fortnight, he flagged off the rally organised by (Lepra) society at the Collectorate in Nirmal.
He said every citizen should feel responsible to prevent leprosy from the society, and to create awareness on how to prevent the decease and take precautions.
District Leprosy Officer Dr Karthik said that leprosy spreads by a bacteria called Microbacterium Leprosy and it can be completely cured with Multiple Drug Therapy (MDT) within 6 months to 12 months.
The disease's treatment is free and available at all health centers. In the district 243 identified and 117 have been cured and remaining 126 patients are being treated, he added.
District Medical and Health Officer DrVasanth Rao, Lepra Society RM Kasthuri, DPMS Rajeshwar, DPMOs Vinod Kumar, A Ganganna, Naresh DM and HO office staff and others were present.
