Warangal: The Urban District administration appears to be in a huddle to deal with any kind of exigency with the Met officials predicting a scorching summer ahead.
With day time temperatures started to increase considerably and to escalate further in the next couple of months, the administration has prepared a summer action plan, with a focus on drinking water supply in the district.
The Medical and Health department has been put on high alert. Further it was instructed to keep stock of ORS, IV fluids, glucose and other essentials in adequate quantities.
These essentials will be made available with ASHA community health workers besides ensuring them at all gram panchayats, primary health centres and anganwadi centres.
The administration also has its focus on bus stations and railway stations for the distribution of ORS packets.
The Urban district joint collector S Dayanand said: "As many as 37 chalivendram (drinking water distribution points) are being set up by the municipal authorities and with the help of non-governmental organisations."
He said that village revenue officers, village revenue assistants and panchayat secretaries have been put on high alert to create awareness about the symptoms of heat stroke and its consequences as also the precautions that should be taken.
Meanwhile, the administration has directed the MGM authorities to set up special wards for treating persons affected by heat stroke. The district administration's advisory also includes working hours for the labourers engaged in construction sector.
The construction labourers will be allowed to work from 6 am to 10 am, and again from 3.30 pm to 6 pm. Referring to drinking water issue, the JC said that Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) has made arrangements to distribute 1.35 cusecs drawing water from Dharmasagar, Bhadrakali and the Waddepalli lakes.
The GWMC will supply drinking water day by day to the 8.10 lakh denizens living in the tri-cities of Warangal-Hanamkonda-Kazipet. The civic body has made arrangements to ensure drinking water supply through water tankers.
