Officials gear up for distribution of 13 MT fertilizers to farmers in Wanaparthy
Farmers must get together and form associations and take up agriculture with a profit making motive rather than just for feeding themselves, says District Collector Sheik Yashmin Basha
Wanaparthy: With the rainy season about to begin in the first week of next month, the Wanaparthy district administration along with the Agriculture department authorities are taking all measures to make sure 13 metric tonnes of fertilisers are distributed to farmers across 71 clusters in the district.
While taking part in an awareness programme on the new comprehensive regulatory farming reforms of the government to the farmers in Balijapally village of Peddamandadi mandal in Wanaparthy district on Wednesday, District Collector Sheik Yashmin Basha said that all farmers must get together and associate themselves and form farmers' associations and take up agriculture with a profit making motive rather than just for feeding themselves.
"The state government had strived hard for 40 days to bring in the new regulatory reforms in the farming sector with a sole aim of benefiting the farmers. As part of this initiative, the State government is advising the farmers to grow only those crops which are much in demand in the market to earn better profits. For this Kharif season, we have made sure 13 metric tonnes of fertilisers are already stocked in the district and very soon from first week of June we will start distributing the same to the farmers," observed the District Collector, while addressing the farmers in Balijapally village.
The District Collector clarified that the government is not forcing farmers to sow only what it is suggesting and they are free to sow whatever crop they wish, however, if the farmers want to claim for any crop damage or face loss due to natural calamities or pests, then the government will prefer those farmers who have adhered to the government's advise.
The Collector advised farmers to shun sowing maize and urged them to take up Red gram, cotton and paddy varieties like Telangana Sona, BPTRNR and other small varieties which have more demand in the market. The Collector informed that in each constituency the State government is planning to set up a warehouse to stock the grains of farmers, so that they can sell their produce when there is good demand in the market.
