Warangal: The Sixth Regional Sports Meet 2019 of the Prisons Department got underway at the LB College Grounds here on Wednesday. Inaugurating the two-day sports meet, Warangal Range Deputy Inspector General of Prisons Y Rajesh said that sports not only keep the people fit but it also reduces stress and depression.

"Participation in sports extend beyond physical health and help improve overall mental health, besides teaching life skills etc," Rajesh said. He called upon the sportspersons to put up a massive performance in the run up to State-level Sports Meet to be held in Hyderabad later.

Speaking on the occasion, LB College Principal Dr Aruna DH Rao said that sporting activity help prison employees relieve their stress besides keeping them fit.

Active participation in the games and sports also help students improve their decision making skills, leadership qualities, sportsman spirit, discipline in their life etc, she said.

Warangal Central Prison Superintendent N Murali Babu said that they were conducting competitions in volleyball, kabaddi, basketball, high jump, long jump, shotput, 100, 400 and 800 meters running, quiz, first aid, essay writing, motor vehicle etc. Deputy Superintendent D Bharath, D Kalidas, Amaravathi, GM Srinivas and LB College Physical Director Prabhakar were among others present.
