Hyderabad: As anticipated, the Government, which claimed credit for many good things it had done since 2014 when the state was formed, avoided making any reference to the issue of the Citizenship Amendment Act, National Population Register and National Register of Citizens.

The Governor's address to the Telangana Legislature had no mention about the NPR or NCR.

Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan in her maiden address to the Telangana Legislature presented a picture of how the state was in a state of "utter neglect," and how the present government led by a person who had successfully led the movement for separate state succeeded in bringing a turnaround.

Quoting a Tamil proverb, she suggested that a "Hunger-free, Disease-free, Enmity-free Country is what one should visualise and work for."

The Governor said that despite prevailing economic scenario in the country, the government would continue to implement all the programmes and schemes promised to the people.

She also said that the government would move forward with positive attitude and search for new avenues for improved revenue resources.

She said that the severe economic challenges in the country for the past several months had an impact on Telangana. But due to strong administrative policies and fiscal discipline, the State was able to withstand the situation.

While other States were showing negative economic growth, Telangana was able to stick its neck out. The Government has decided to pursue fiscal discipline. "The governance will be in tune with the needs of the people, striking a healthy balance between welfare and development," she said.

The Governor compared the situation prevailing before and after the formation of the State.

She talked on how the farm sector was pushed into crisis and farmers committing suicides and how her government brought a sea change in the situation.

She also mentioned about various government schemes like pensions, Kalyana Lakshmi, 959 residential schools and other programmes in the welfare sector.

The Governor said that works of Kaleshwaram irrigation project would be completed shortly. Works on Palamur-Rangareddy project were on fast-track and the government was making all-out efforts to complete the Samakka barrage works aimed to supply water to Devadula by this summer itself, she added.

The first citizen said that the Rythu Samanvaya Samithi would be renamed as Rythu Bandhu Samithi and the financial assistance of Rs 10,000 per acre would be continued. She also talked about the steps taken by the government in medical colleges, Basti Dawakhanas and other facilities.

The Governor said that so far 12,427 new industries got permissions under TS-iPass and 14 lakh new employment was generated.

The IT exports from Telangana were more than the national average. She said that the government so far sanctioned 2,72,763 double bedroom houses.

Referring to 'Ganga Jamuna Tehzeeb', the Governor said her Government will act sternly against those who are trying to create communal tensions and suppress such attempts with an iron hand.
