Elections to the first phase are scheduled to be held on May 6

Hyderabad: In the first phase of elections to the Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies (MPTCs) and Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies (ZPTCs), the State Election Commission on Friday declared two ZPTCs and 69 MPTCs unanimously elected.

Ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi candidates were declared elected unopposed in two ZPTCs, each in Jagityal and Nizamabad districts.

Polling will be held in 195 ZPTCs in the first phase on May 6. Out of the 2,166 MPTCs in the first phase, elections as many as 69 constituencies were unanimous. The TRS bagged 67 and the Congress two.

Now the polling would be held 2,097 MPTCs on May 6. The TRS won 10 MPTCs unopposed in Siddipet district, one each in Mancherial, Nirmal, Karimnagar, Khammam, Gadwal, Mahbubnagar, Wanaparthy, Medak, Sangareddy, two MPTCs each in Siricilla, Kothagudem, Janagaon, three each in Nagarkurnool, Ranga Reddy, Vikarabad, Warangal Rural, Warangal Urban, five in Bhupalapalli, and six each in Mahabubabad, Kamareddy and Nizamabad districts.

The Congress won one MPTC unanimously in Suryapet and one in Gadwal district.

The State Election Commission scrutinised the nomination process with the help of District Collectors.

The SEC instructed the District Collectors to ensure that declaration of unanimous elections only thorough verification of all the facts.

The returning officers of the ZPTC and MPTC seats acted in accordance with the SEC's directions scrupulously.

On the other hand, the last date for filing nominations for the second phase was April 28.

The SEC is yet to announce list of contesting candidates in the second phase after end of the withdrawal of nominations.

The nominations process for the third phase would come to an end on May 6 with the announcement of the announcement of the final list of contesting candidates.

The polling for the first phase would take place on May 6 and the campaign for this phase would end on May 4.

The SEC clearly instructed that the campaign in any form should end by 5 pm of May 4.
