Will bring Godavari water to Palamuru: Srinivas Goud
With the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Chief Ministers agreeing to take up the mammoth project of linking Krishna and Godavari rivers, Excise Minister Srinivas Goud expressed his desire to accomplish the dream of irrigating every bit of Palamuru region by bringing Godavari river water to Krishna basin.
Mahbubnagar: With the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Chief Ministers agreeing to take up the mammoth project of linking Krishna and Godavari rivers, Excise Minister Srinivas Goud expressed his desire to accomplish the dream of irrigating every bit of Palamuru region by bringing Godavari river water to Krishna basin.
Taking part in the groundbreaking ceremony of TRS party office in Mahbubnagar district headquarter on Monday, the Minister said the water in the Krishna River has been decreasing every year and this was mainly due to Karnataka and Maharashtra governments increasing the height of their dams and not releasing adequate water downstream. Moreover, the rains in the Krishna basin have also decreased drastically in the last two decades. In view of the above, the only option left was to utilise the excess waters of Godavari River as proposed by the two States.
"We have excess water in Godavari. Because of no adequate dams and reservoirs, a large quantity of water is being wasted into the sea. As both the State governments have agreed to work on linking Krishna and Godavari rivers, I shall do my best to bring the Godavari river water to Krishna basin and irrigate every bit of land in the Palamuru region," said Srinivas Goud.
The Minister said after the inauguration of Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation project, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was now focusing on Palamuru Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation Project and it would be likely completed in the next two years. For this, the State government had already allocated Rs 10,000 crore to expedite works.
Along with the Minister, Mahbubnagar MP Manne Srinivas Reddy, Jadcherla MLA Dr Laxma Reddy, Devarkadra MLA Ala Venkateshwar Reddy and Narayanpet MLA S Rajender Reddy took part in the groundbreaking ceremony. In Gadwal, Wanaparthy and Nagarkurnool districts also, the respective TRS party MLAs and Ministers took part in the ground-breaking ceremony for the TRS party offices.
