Vijayawada: City Police Commissioner Ch Dwaraka Tirumala Rao on Friday handed over cheques for Rs four lakh each to the family of home guard S Durga Prasad who died while discharging duties and to G Kasturibai who worked as home guard for a long time.
The Commissioner appreciated the in-service home guards for coming forward voluntarily and pooling one day salary to provide financial help to the families of home guard who died while in service and home guard who was retired.
The fund pooling was done as the home guards do not get any benefit from the government either during their retirement or in case of death while in service.
