MLA launches YSR Kanti Velugu scheme in Vijayawada
MLA Malladi Vishnu said that the State government has taken up the YSR Kanthi Velugu scheme to prevent blindness among people.
Vijayawada: MLA Malladi Vishnu said that the State government has taken up the YSR Kanthi Velugu scheme to prevent blindness among people.To mark the World Sight Day, the MLA inaugurated YSR Kanti Velugu at Bishop Azaraiah Girls High School here on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, Vishnu said that the government would provide free eye check-up to people and give spectacles to the needy. In the first phase, they initiated the programme for schoolchildren studying in both government and private schools.
From October 10 to 16 they would organise free eye check up and in months of November and December they would given spectacles to the needy. He further said that from February 2020 to 2022 January, they would organise free eye check up camps in four phases and distribute spectacles, perform cataract, glaucoma and other eye related surgeries free.
He said that Vitamin A should be given to the children in time to prevent blindness and added that people should get their eyes checked regularly to prevent blindness. Deputy Educational Officer S Srinivas Rao and others were present.
