Vijayawada: The Civil Supplies Department is gearing up for the door delivery of ration to 1.47 crore white ration card holders in the State from October 2. As part of the efforts, the department will rope in 13,000 specially designed vehicles in the State.

Civil Supplies Minister Kodali Nani following his long association with the automobile industry, got an innovative idea on manufacturing of special vehicles for the ration delivery and has been supervising the works. It is expected that all vehicles will be ready by October 2.

Srikakulam district has been chosen as the model district for the door delivery of ration in the State. Besides, some areas like Gudivada in Krishna district also selected for the door delivery of ration.

Kodali Nani has been personally supervising the ration distribution in Gudivada and satisfied with the efforts of the Civil Supplies Department staff and the ward volunteers.

Nani displayed the special ration vehicle to Finance Minister B Rajendranath Reddy on Saturday at the Sub-Collector's office here.

He has explained how the government can distribute ration to the beneficiaries at their doorsteps using the vehicles, which have weighing machines and other facilities to register the details.

Earlier, Nani has conducted the demo before Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and got the nod to continue the door delivery process. Nani said the packing expenses will be reduced with the use of vehicles.

In a press release on Saturday, he said the sixth phase of ration distribution was in progress in the State after Covid-19 lockdown was announced and ration was distributed to 1.29 crore families by Saturday.
