This star of Malayalam cinema is an actor, singer and an honorary officer with the Indian Army. He is known as the actor of actors for the ease with which he brings alive his onscreen character, be it any role he essays. Mohanlal, who enters the senior citizen club today is an outstanding, matchless artiste. On his special day, he has announced that one of his favourite director Jeetu Joseph's all-time blockbuster, 'Drishyam' will be presented as a sequel. It is a special film alright as it was the first one to enter the 50-crore club at the BO for the industry.

Telugu fans have seen him in ' Janata Garage' (2015), a film which saw him effortlessly assert his class. Then there have been many hits from his home industry which have been dubbed and distributed over the years. The lockdown has also made many cine buffs watch his rich variety of performances over OTT platforms with the sub-titling adding to the pleasure.

A casual glance at his illustrious career would make one aware why he is extraordinarily special to Malayalam cinema and is counted among India's finest and successful actors. Statistics about his time in the entertainment industry would of course be staggering: a timeline which begins in 1978 and is rock solid 42 years later with nearly 350 films in various languages including Hindi to his credit.

Like a few anti-hero introductions of the1970s like Vinod Khanna, Shatrughan Sinha and our own Rajinikanth and Mohan Babu, he too started playing the bad man and later went on to morph as a hero to retain all the top box-office records of his industry in his favour. Looks like there is going to be no challenge on that front at least for a long time to come.
