Charlapally: A team of teachers from Maharashtra jails department on Friday lauded the efforts to spread literacy among prisoners after inspecting the implementation of Vidyadana Yojana Scheme at the Central Prison in Charlapally. The visiting teachers went round the barracks, library and school building and interacted with prisoners to know the teaching methodology being adopted.

The teachers witnessed a Powerpoint presentation on counseling of prisoners, their daily activities while pursuing studies. They were informed by the prison officials that prisoners were being educated, made to attend adult literacy classes and take examinations before their release.

Those interested and showing merit were being encouraged to purse degree and PG studies of Dr B R Ambedkar Open University. The prison officials told visitors that education was the only better option and means to overcome stress during an inmate's stay.

Among those who interacted with the teachers included Director M Sampath, Deputy Directors G Sammayya and Chintala Dasaratham, Jailors Ramakrishna, Devi Singh, Mogilesh, Jyoythishwar Reddy, Janardhan Reddy and Krishna, and teachers Ramesh and Prashanth.
