Kukatpally: Mayor Bonthu Rammohan on Wednesday laid stress on the need for keeping the surroundings of people clean so that the city will remain clean. "If Hyderabad has to match other international cities as clean city everyone has to be responsible towards it," he remarked.

He was speaking after inaugurating new programmes of ITC Wav Club in JNTU auditorium here under the joint auspices of the club, Education Department and GHMC as part of the expansion of ITC Wellbeing Out of Waste with the aim of ushering in Swachh Bharat.

The Mayor recalled that in international cities a fine was being imposed if a cover was thrown in the open carelessly. 'If it is repeated second and third time there would be imprisonment. There is a need for the city denizens to feel responsible in not littering'.

Rammohan presented the Inter-School Recycling Championship Awards to 17 schools and 16 students. The new programmes are part of the recycling of wastes being made part of school curriculum and to give a boost to the Swachh Bharat campaign. It makes the students aware how to separate waste at the source itself and they in turn making their respective local residents aware of the process.

Among those present at the event were Education Secretary Janardhan Reddy, GHMC Zonal Commissioner Mamata, Serilingampally Zonal Commissioner Harichandana and Deputy Commissioner Mohan Reddy.
