Santosh Nagar: With the construction works of flyover coming to a stand-still, the entire stretch from DMRL X Roads to Phisalbanda has turned into an accident-prone zone. Some of the places were dug up and not filled. Moreover, the pending works of flyover and the laying of pipelines by HMWSSB have only added to the woes of the commuters.

The road connecting Santosh Nagar and Champapet, which is passing through the DMRL X Roads is still in a bad shape and has only increased the hurdles for motorists. At the Owaisi junction, the unevenness of National Highway can be seen covered with sand and other materials. Each day one or two accidents are being reported on this 1-km-long stretch road.

As part of the project, the entire road was dug up and damaged and later, road was levelled by spreading out sand on the dug up the road. "Many a heavy vehicles take this route, as it is a national highway.

For the last two months, the road has become accident-prone, owing to the damage on it due to manmade causes. In recent months, many two-wheelers fell off from their bikes, as the some part of the road was damaged and sand which was filled at dug up road, was spread all over," said Ishtiyaq Ahmed, local leader.

Speaking to The Hans India here on Tuesday, Ishtiyaq Ahmed said that the works of the flyover were started almost 10 months back and they remained pending for some months.

Due to the construction works of flyover, the road near the old Santosh Nagar police station in Phisalbanda has become narrow and it is creating problems to the commuters and regular traffic snarls can be witnessed. Ishtiyaq wondered as to how such problems were being faced on a National Highway.

Not only the local commuters, but also those coming from other states driving heavy vehicles were being put to lot of hardships, he added. He requested the authorities to construct a temporary BT road, so that road users do not suffer and accidents are minimized on this stretch.

According to him, on this highway, many heavy vehicles pass through and as the road also connects the LB Nagar and Nagarjuna Sagar Road, the authorities should act swiftly to ensure the road is cleared of all the hindrances.

"Recently I fell off from my bike which skidded off the road due to the unevenness and rugged surface. I escaped with minor injuries, but this may not be the case with others. The officials should initiate some road repair work," he added.

GHMC Superintendent Engineer (south zone), Dattupant said that the at the Owaisi junction, the road was dug up for the laying of a water pipeline and the repair work was being taken up for the leakage. "The HWMSSB covered the road temporary by sand and the road will be re-laid after the working is completed", said Dattupant.
