Storm water drains will be developed in city, says Mayor

Vijayawada: Mayor Koneru Sreedhar on Friday said that Vijayawada Municipal Corporation is planning with an estimated cost of Rs 760 crore to hold Krishna Pushkaralu on a grand note in the city. The Mayor said that improving sanitation and development of underground drainage system across the city is the top priority in the New Year.

Talking to the newsmen at his chambers, Koneru Sreedhar said that the VMC was exploring all possibilities to develop the city to face natural calamities. In this regard, proposals were also verified by Minister for Municipal Administration P Narayana and officials in developing the storm water drains with an estimated cost of Rs 461 crore in the city. Plans are afoot to construct G+6 building at a cost of Rs 30 crore on the premises of VMC administrative office, he said.

The Mayor also said that corporation was leaving no stone unturned to augment revenue from the commercial establishments under VMC. A Detailed Project Report (DPR) was prepared by the officials in constructing two more floors at the NTR Complex with an estimated cost of Rs 11 crore. About 1,050 individual toilets were also constructed by the VMC as part of the Swachh Bharat campaign across the city, he said.

Deputy Mayor Gogula Venkata Ramana Rao was also spoke on the occasion.
