It has completed ten years of its sojourn successfully by winning the hearts of poor and common denizens.

A function held here at ‘Sravanam’ project premises on Thursday to celebrate its successful completion of ten years. Parents were happy to see their children, who were undergoing treatment in the TTD-run Shravanam Project, calling them as Amma and Nanna.

Daily wage earners Rama Lakshmi and Rama Krishna, who hail from Dwaraka Tirumala of West Godavari, felt very happy when Sairam was born to them six years ago. But their happiness did not lost long when they were shocked to notice that their kid was born deaf. They joined Sairam in Sravanam Project as they were unable to meet the medical expenses for their kid. Rama Lakshmi said that she came to know about the Sravanam Project run by TTD through SVBC channel in 2013.

“With the blessings of Lord Venkateswara, my child not only calls me Amma, but able to recite slokas, Vemana Satakam and tables. I have given him birth. But Sravanam has provided him rebirth. We are indebted to TTD and Sravanam organisers,” the elated mother said.

Children recite Sanskrit slokas

Tears poured out from the eyes of mothers, who were congregated in the Sravanam school premises in Old Maternity Hospital in Tirupati on Thursday, when they heard their kids reciting Sanskrit Slokas, Vemana Padyams, Sumathi Satakams with eloquence and ease.

Speaking on the occasion, TTD EO Dr D Sambasiva Rao said that the project witnessed a phenomenal increase which was evident with its strength which was just 14 when it was launched in 2006 now went up to 201 kids in 2016. In all, a total of 823 infants underwent training in the project set up with a noble aim to remove dispel from the minds of both the parents and children suffering from deafness. The children completed DHVNI (Development of Hearing Voice and Natural Integration) course.

Sambasiva Rao said that the services of Sravanam Project will be extended further. “After seeing the overwhelming response to this project, we are now contemplating to open up deafness-identifying centres at all the district headquarters after negotiating with Medical and Health department of the State government and provide our assistance to the needy,” he said.

Apart from taking up Dharma Pracharam, the TTD giving priority to social service programmes including health, education etc. He said Sranavam programme proved immensely beneficial to the families of hearing impaired children.

TTD Joint Executive Officer P Bhaskar said TTD is contemplating to set up Sravanam sub-centre in Guntur. “Plans are foot for identification of the hearing impaired children below 5 years, with the help of DMHO, ICDS and Women SHGs in the district to join them in Sravaam for training to make them near normal,” he said.
