Anantapur: Minorities Welfare Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy has reiterated the government's resolve to improve the living standards of Muslim community members and said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is doing everything to improve their
economic lot.

Addressing Muslim community members at the busy Saptagiri Circle and at the Housing Board mosque premises after observing Namaz at both the mosques on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr festival here on Thursday, Palle Raghunatha Reddy stated that the government is taking several measures and steps for lifting the poor Muslim community out of the shackles of poverty and illiteracy and improve the lot of the women in particular.

The Minister said that the Chief Minister had been allocating welfare budget generously for the community and implementing welfare schemes on an unprecedented scale. Under united Andhra Pradesh, only Rs 4.6 crore was spent on Muslim welfare while the present TDP government has allocated Rs 710 crore, Palle said, adding that the State government hosted Iftar lunch and dinners to the community in all the 13 districts by spending Rs 35 crore on 11 lakh Muslim population.

Under the Dulhan scheme, the Minister said that the government had released Rs 54 crore this year towards financial assistance to poor Muslim brides and grooms for marriages. During the Ramzan season, Rs 3 crore had been spent on Mosque repairs throughout the State, he said.

The Minorities Minister said that 4,500 acres of Wakf Board lands have been redeemed so far from illegal occupation and 1,000 encroachers had been given notices to vacate the occupied lands and 100 criminal cases had been filed against the encroachers,
he maintained.

Local MLA V Prabhakar Chowdary praised the Chief Minister for extending his largesse on the community welfare. He said that the government is working for the emancipation of the oppressed classes among the minorities.

The Ministers Palle and Sunitha and others greeted ‘Eid Mubarak’ to the members of the community and participated in Iftar lunch. Heavy police security was arranged at the noted mosques in the city and vigilance was stepped up following recent reports of visit of ISIS agents to the city recently.
