Kurnool: Pilgrims thronged Srisailam, Lingala Gattu and Sangameswaram ghats to take a holy dip on Saturday – the second day of Krishna Pushkaralu. The number of devotees visiting ghats had gone up significantly as there are three holidays in a row. Around 50,000 pilgrims are said to have visited the ghats in the district on Saturday.

Collector Challa Vijay Mohan, SP Ake Ravi Krishna and Special Officer Ananta Ramulu inspected arrangements at Lingala Gattu, and interacted with devotees. The Collector said that 50 buses are being operated to ferry devotees up to Pushkar ghats without any fare. He said arrangements were made to provide a meal for Rs 5.

However, he said free meals would be provided to devotees if sponsors came forward. The ropeway service which hitherto accessible to VIPs would now be available to pilgrims as well, he added.

SP Ake Ravi Krishna said all out efforts are being made to ensure the safety of pilgrims. He said 3,000 police were deployed, besides installing close circuit cameras to monitor the security situation in and around Kurnool.

Rayalaseema Inspector General of Police N Sreedhar Rao went around the ghats and inspected the arrangements in Sangameswaram along with Joint Collector C Hari Kiran.

Markapuram MLA Tenka Venkata Reddy accompanied with his family members visited Sangameswaram and took a holy dip. After the holy dip, he offered pinda pradanam to his fore fathers.
