Visakhapatnam: A 47-year-old transgender was allegedly electrocuted at her residence in Anakapalle town on the wee hours of Sunday. The deceased was identified as P Venkata Surya Narayana alias Devudamma, who was a residing at a rented house at Gandhinagar in Anakapalle.

Though Devudamma is residing in Anakapalle, she was not having contacts and relations with local transgenders. According to the reports, she was having good contacts with the transgenders in Visakhapatnam city.

The sources said that Devudamma was a follower of most controversial and the prime accused in two transgenders murder cases, Yellaji. The sources said Devudamma helped Yellaji a lot when the latter was facing several allegations in murder cases.

According to the police, though rumours spread that she was murdered for monetary gain, as per primary investigation, Devudamma died due to electrocution. The police were suspecting that that she was burnt after fire broke out due to a short circuit.

As the door got stuck, she was unable to come out of the house, the police sources added. The sources said throughout the night, the area has been engaged with grand gala festival celebrations of a local deity.

At about 5 am, the owner of the house who saw smoke upstairs where Devudamma was staying informed the police and fire department personnel.

The police and fire personnel rushed to the spot and put out the fire. Later, they found the body of Devudamma which was sent for post-mortem. According to reports, Devudamm recently lodged a complaint that some miscreants stole her gold and other valuables when she was sleeping.

The sources also said that it was not a case of electrocution and she might have been killed and created the scene to misguide the police. A senior police officer has not ruled out the murder angle and said that Devudamma had some rivals. A case has been registered and more details would be unearthed during our investigation, the police officer told The Hans India here on Sunday.
