Kurnool: The CPM Central Committee member and former MLA, MA Gafoor demanded that the state government should pay Rs 25 lakh compensation to the kin of the deceased besides taking stringent action against the quarry owner.
CPM workers led by Gafoor staged a protest in front of the Collectorate here on Saturday and raised anti-government slogans.
Earlier, the activists visited hospital where they are being treated for burn injuries and consoled them.
Later, speaking to the media, Gafoor criticised the state government for failing to take care of migrant labour welfare. As per the act, the District Collector has to pursue the welfare of the migrant labourers.
No one knows from which state the labourers have come here to work as officials are in dilemma to dispose the dead bodies, the CPM leader said.
“We demand immediate arrest of the quarry owner Srinivasa Chowdary as he has violated all norms,” he said. Gafoor asked the government to send the dead bodies to their native placed by bearing expenses.
