Tirupati: A major breakthrough in Tirupati’s development is Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has given green signal to build a 6-km elevated corridor to solve the traffic woes in the pilgrim centre at cost of Rs 400 crore.

According to information, two days ago Chittoor district Collector PS Pradyumna went to Vijayawada and met the Chief Minister. In his meeting with the CM, the Collector had explained the importance and need for the elevated corridor for Tirupati city. From across the country every day, more than 3,000 four-wheeler vehicles are coming to Tirumala.

In addition, over 3,000 autos, 1 lakh motorbikes, around 2,000 cars and buses are running locally. Due to this, heavy traffic is witnessed during morning and evening hours putting locals to a lot of hardships. To avoid pilgrim vehicles entering city lanes, the Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) has planned for construction of the elevated corridor from Tiruchanur Market Yard to Kapilateertham Nandi circle via Lakshmipuram and Ramanuja circle on the existing Tirumala bypass road.

For this mega project implementation, MCT is going to bear Rs 250 crore from its Smart City project funds, and another Rs 150 crore will be funded by Tirumala-Tirupati Devasthanams in the interest of pilgrims’ facility. A few days ago, this project was under threat because the state government has not issued any permission. Collector PS Pradyumna took the initiative and went to CM’s office to get the permission from the state government to speed up the elevated corridor construction.

Once this mega elevated corridor project completed, pilgrims have no need to go inside the temple city roads they can pass over these roads and directly can go Tirumala through elevated corridor. Benguluru and Chennai pilgrims can access the flyover from the Chennai –Ananathapur national highway.

At the same time, pilgrims from Vijayawada and Nellore can take flyover through Ramanuja circle passage. Similarly, another passage will be provided near Leelamahal circle for Hyderabad, Kurnool and Kadapa pilgrims. In addition, two more passages for entry of RTC buses and local vehicles from Poornakumbam circle would be taken up.

Regarding this latest development, MCT Engineer Chandrashekar speaking to The Hans India said that with the special interest of Collector PS Pradyuman and Commissioner V Vijayaramaraju this mega elevated corridor project took a shape and moving towards construction stage. The Commissioner has instructed to call for tenders within 15 days. “Before calling for tenders we have to work out on a few technical issues, later we would call bids for construction of mega elevated corridor,” he said.
