Tirupati: Punganur town in Chittoor district will be in news from this year’s Independence Day with its novel initiative of playing ‘National Anthem’ every day at 8 am. This Municipal town will become the first one in the State to implement this while Telangana has already implemented it in Jammikuntla town.
The move was initiated by the ‘Janaganamana Committee members PNS Prakash, P Ayub Khan, V Deepak, Shyam Prasad and Muthyalu aimed at promoting patriotism among the people of the town. After its inauguration on August 15, every day all the people have to gather at 8 a.m wherever they are and sing the National Anthem in chorus.
All the steps were taken to broadcast this at important centres through loudspeakers. Speaking to The Hans India the Municipal Commissioner K Lokeswara Varma said that “Though, we got Independence 72 years back, still people were divided by castes and religions and the feeling of nationalism was missing.’’
A rally with all the students of schools and colleges and their teachers will be held on Wednesday to mark the occasion. The move was aimed to make the present generation aware of the contributions of our great leaders who fought for Independence untiringly.
The services of Rotary and Lions Clubs and other organisations will be utilised for the event. The Commissioner also said, the public address system set up can be used by Municipal, Revenue or Police officials for creating awareness among public.
