Amaravati: TDP leaders are of the view that regional parties will play a major role in forming the government at the Centre after 2019 polls and they have already started their efforts in this regard. They are also hoping that party president N Chandrababu Naidu will play a key role in forming government at the Centre, since regional parties have been emerging as strong forces across the country.

The recent elections in Karnataka proved that a regional party JD(S) with minimum numbers in Legislative Assembly formed the government, by taking support from Congress.

The TDP leaders observe that both national parties have lost ground in country and regional parties gained popularity among the people in various states. The TDP leaders maintain that Congress is liberal in electing Prime Ministerial candidate from among alliance parties. Already the AICC president Rahul Gandhi announced that PM candidate will be decided with the consent of alliance parties.

Given this backdrop, TDP leaders are saying that since Chandrababu Naidu does not have ambitious thoughts on PM position, he could play greater role in making grand alliance alternative to NDA in the country. The TDP spokesperson Lanka Dinakar informed that BJP president Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi lost confidence among public, who gave tall promises on eliminating corruption.

He said that the BJP lost General Elections in Karnataka because of allowing highly corrupt leaders like Gali Janardhan Reddy. “Whenever central government tried to suppress state governments, the respective national parties were thrown out of power with united force of regional parties in the country from the last three decades. TDP founder NT Ramarao played crucial role in forming National Front and subsequently VP Singh became Prime Minister at that time”, Dinakar explained.

He said that presently all the regional parties across the country have been revolting against BJP government, because of undemocratic rule of Narendra Modi. “Whenever the central government suppress states undemocratically, the responsibility of safeguarding democracy will be on regional parties”, Dinakar said. The TDP is planning to use Telangana general elections as a platform in formation of alternative alliance against BJP.
