Visakhapatnam: Over 6,000 former students of Andhra University (AU) had registered through website for the WAVES-2018 annual alumni programme, which was going to be held on December 10 at AU Convention hall on the Beach Road. HRD Minister Ganta Srinivas Rao has released a promo video of AU as part of the curtain raiser programme held here on Sunday at Platinum Jubilee hall.

Addressing media, Ganta Srinivasa Rao called upon the alumni to donate generously for the event as the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on behalf of the government promised to release the equal amount for it. As the varsity officials had estimated the programme expenditure will be around Rs 50 lakh, various committees have been formed to complete the works of the WAVES-2018 programme at a brisk phase.

As the doyen of Indian industry and Padma Vibhushan Ratan Tata is going to attend the alumni meet as chief guest, the programme had assumed more significance and many former students are willing to enroll and attend the programme.

On the occasion, commemorating Ratan Tata’s victories, a pylon will be established by the AU officials on the Beach road and it will be unveiled by Ratan Tata and later he will interact with the elite teaching fraternity and members of AU on December 10 in the city, the minister added.

Former rector of AU (1995), A Prasanna Kumar stated that the annual alumni will be conducted on (December 10th) which is the birthday of the AU first Vice Chancellor Cattamanchi Ramalinga Reddy(CR Reddy).

“In 1926 January, Justice Party (India) was decided to establish Andhra University at Waltair and Reddy was the natural choice for appointment as its first Vice-Chancellor. He made AU a great centre of higher education and outstanding research in both sciences and humanities,” he added.
