The new gen family MPV was clicked near the Bangalore-Mysore highway off which Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s plants are located.

TKM recently halted the production of the old Innova, strongly indicating that the new Innova Crysta is just a few weeks away from its launch. Certain dealerships across the country have already started unofficial bookings for the new MPV. Deliveries are expected to commence in May 2016.

Based on the new IMV platform, the Innova Crysta is underpinned by an improved ladder frame chassis and more powerful downsized engines. The example spotted features the 2.4-litre badge, thereby revealing its whereabouts. Replacing the old 2.5-litre oil burner, the new unit dishes out 149 PS and 342 Nm of torque when mated to a 5-speed MT and 360 Nm of torque when mated to a new 6-speed AT.

The 2.0-litre petrol engine rated at 139 PS and a range-topping 2.8-litre unit generating 177 PS are also expected to be in the mix. Thanks to the extension of Delhi Diesel ban by SC, the diesel variants of the Innova Crysta can’t be sold in the NCR.The Toyota Innova Crysta aims to maintain the MPV’s market leadership in the segment. Given that it has moved up the market, there is no direct rival.
