Hyundai Eon, Maruti Celerio fail crash test miserably: Global NCAP ratings show

This is the third instance of Global-NCAP subjecting a bunch of Indian cars to crash tests under its “Safer cars for India” campaign since 2014. Unfortunately, the automakers continue to take vehicular safety very lightly in an attempt to cut costs and improve fuel economy. The latest batch of Indian cars that have received 0-star safety rating includes the Maruti Celerio and Hyundai Eon.
The Celerio has been selling in good numbers right from the beginning, thanks to its AMT (Automated Manual Transmission). It’s a shame that the popular car is the worst performer among other Indian models (Kwid, Eon, Scorpio and Eeco) that were tested by Global NCAP now.
Yes, all the cars scored 0-stars in adult occupant safety, but except the Celerio which received 1-star rating for child occupant safety, the rest managed to get 2 stars.
The Maruti hatchback scored a meagre 11.53 points out of 49 under the child occupant safety category. In comparison, the Hyundai Eon scored 20.42 points out of 49 which is good for 2-star rating under child occupant safety category. However, Global NCAP says that both cars have unstable body shell integrity.
