Hyderabad: The city police foiled a robbery attempt here on Thursday after arresting two persons including an employee of a mobile showroom in Jubilee Hills. The third person fled the spot and police are looking for him. However, an L&T contract worker sustained bullet injury in his chest when one of the robbers opened fire to escape from the police at Road No 36 in Jubilee Hills on Thursday.

Two members of the gang were nabbed and search is on for the third person, the city police told the media. The incident took place near the traffic signal located in front of Neeru's textile showroom located in Jubilee Hills Road No 36 during noon.

City police commissioner M Mahendar Reddy, who visited the scene of incident, told media that the accused caught were identified as Faheem and Abdul Khadir of Gulbarga in Karnataka and Shami, employee of Big C mobile showroom belonging to the city. “The accused opened fire when police tried to apprehend them near the traffic signal in Jubilee Hills.

The accused planned to rob a private organisation’s manager who was carrying huge amount of cash to deposit in a bank here,” the commissioner said. The police said that Faheem was earlier arrested by the city police in similar cases. After releasing from jail, he again started committing offences.

The employee of mobile showroom, Shami, had briefed Faheem and Khadir about the manager’s plan to deposit the cash in a private bank in Jubilee Hills. They duo came to the city about four days back and planned to rob the manager, the police said. On receiving credible information, a team of four policemen reached the spot 10 minutes before the incident.

The police spotted the robbers waiting on a bike near the traffic signal and rushed towards them. A scuffle broke out between the policemen and the robbers. In the melee, one of the accused persons identified as Faheem opened fire at the police twice. Consequently, a bullet hit the L&T worker Dharmendra Singh, who was in a DCM van near the signal.

With the help of locals, the police apprehended two persons, while one of them managed to flee the spot. “The police were waiting at the signal near the showroom. There were three persons on a bike and one of them was talking on the phone. One of them was with a long beard, another was fat and the third person, who was lean, was wearing a scarf.

As soon as the signal turned red, four police personnel came running towards the signal and caught the accused persons on the bike. During the scuffle, one of them opened fire and Dharmendra Singh who was sitting in the DCM van suffered chest injury,” eye-witnesses told media.

West Zone DCP A Venkateshwara Rao said that at about 1 pm we received a tip-off on the movement of robbers in Jubilee Hills.We sent a police team to nab them. The commissioner said that two country-made pistols were seized from arrested persons’ possession. He also visited the KIMS hospital and consoled Dharmendra Singh, who sustained bullet injury to his chest.
